Rise of the Tomb Raider arrives on our systems on November 10, the same day as Fallout 4. This means that two massive games come out on the same day, which many would say is a mistake. But Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg assures everyone that is not the case. Greenberg said:
“The challenge is that you have to look at the production schedule. You want to make sure that you don’t rush the game so that it’s not done or not of high quality. That is always the number one priority. The challenge with Tomb Raider is if you go a week later you’re against Star Wars: Battlefront, if you go a week earlier you’re against Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, you go two weeks earlier you’re against Halo 5.”
Mr. Greenberg goes on to talk about how the marketing plan of Microsoft was to try and give each game the maximum amount of coverage possible for when it releases. Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are games that may not have quite the pull of Battlefront and Black Ops 3.
This interview is an interesting thing to see and definitely raises the bar for accessibility, and reveals plenty about how games get scheduled.
