Update: All cutscenes were made in real-time as well. They aren’t CGI but some are shown as videos to mask loading. Additionally, no input lag isn’t possible as there is always some due to the nature of consoles and controllers. However, Remedy have managed to reduce that to a minimum.
Last week some lucky games journalists got to go to Remedy to play the highly anticipated Xbox One exclusive, Quantum Break. They got extensive hands-on time to be able to write lengthy previews that will go up sometime this week. One person who works at Remedy spoke on Twitter and talked a bit about what was in the current build of Quantum Break and what went into setting up this press event.
Thomas Puha, head of PR at Remedy, talked about how some of the cutscenes didn’t work in the demo and explained why that might have been.
During the press visit the cinematics in the game did not work correctly which I felt so bad about for not just demo but the cinematics team

The week before cinematics worked but lighting was still going on. During the visit, the streaming or something with the cinematics broke
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) February 7, 2016
An earlier build with working cinematics was missing other crucial content, so couldnt use it. Developing games 😀 all is silky nice now ofc

He also wanted to stress how much he would’ve loved to show everyone the game but things just don’t work out that way, sadly.
The difficult aspect, one of them, with these visits is how many journos can we get to the event. There are so many things that affect that
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) February 7, 2016
When I was a journo based in Finland it was a mega struggle to get invites to press events/studio visits since our market is so small
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) February 7, 2016
So if there was say 12 slots to go see a game, Finland would not be in there. Major markets like UK, France, Germany, Benelux got the slots
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) February 7, 2016
So my point is that I had some influence who could come see the game and there is ofc politics and its also down to PR budget very much
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) February 7, 2016
We’d love to show the game to everybody who is interested but thats impossible. Also as we did do the visit at the studio, thats a long way
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) February 7, 2016
Thomas also mentioned how the game preforms very well in its current build.
@yozetty you know I’ve played the bits we showed you back in October so many times now. Now there is no input lag and frame-rate is smooth
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) February 7, 2016
He also made a joke about the viral sensation that is DJ Khaled promoting Quantum Break.
We need #djkhaled to promote #QuantumBreak 😀 major key.
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) February 7, 2016
Quantum Break will launch April 5th exclusively on Xbox One and will feature a TV show companion inside the game that shows the side of the villains. It will feature stars like X-Men’s Shawn Ashmore and will be one Remedy’s biggest and most ambitious game yet.
