Although this is a very small study group–and the readership who they examined–it remains interesting in the least. Listen Research conducted a market study for VR headsets using a sample group of 300 people on the Gamespot website. According to the study, 74% of respondents stated that they would purchase a VR headset for either their console or PC. The numbers were more in favour of the console versions of VR, even if it’s mainly relegated to PC at this stage.
It’s interesting to see how excited gamers are for the upcoming VR revolution. VR headsets have mainly been expensive monstrosities, like the HTC Vive and PlayStation VR headsets, and many gamers will have plenty of time to wait it out for the prices–and sizes–to drop to more manageable levels. Microsoft, on the other hand, have remained at arms length for the most part and have recently announced that their Xbox One Scorpio will support VR headsets, with Fallout 4 confirmed as one of the games that will be supported.
However, this study is quite a small sample of the overall market and should be taken with a grain of salt. VR is a predominantly untested technology and still have many shortfalls, and gamers, in general, will most likely wait it out until those have been fixed.
