Windows 10 on Xbox One called OneCore, makes certain features 50% faster

During the latest episode of Major Nelson’s podcast, Mike Ybarra gave some more information about Windows 10 on Xbox One. While only a few Preview members will be able to try the new Xbox One experience in the beginning, the team wants to grow it in the coming months to as big as they can. The reason why it won’t be released to everyone is because in the beginning some features simply won’t work. Ybarra has been testing it for 4 months, and 4 months ago no one wanted to test it because it was so early in development.

The goal of the Windows 10 Xbox One update has been to make the interface super fast and responsive. The version of Windows 10 that is going to be included on the Xbox One is actually a highly customized version of new software. It’s called OneCore. It was built specifically around the features needed by those who use the Xbox One.

The team has spreadsheets with comparison data on how long it takes to execute tasks on Xbox 360, on the current Xbox One software and on the new Xbox One experience. With some features, it’s 50% faster and easier to get things going.

The new Xbox One experience also brings improvements for developers. They will be able to directly communicate with users announcing patches, calling votes on features and engage with them directly.

New accessibility features will also make their way into Windows 10 so that gamers will special needs can enjoy the console.
