Microsoft will soon be rolling out a new update to the Xbox 360 Preview Program which will allow the support of external hard drives on the system. The Xbox 360 Preview Program kicked off last month and selected members had the chance to sign up right from the console to test new and improved features before they were rolled out to the general public, just like the Xbox One Preview Program.
The support for external hard drives will roll out to all Xbox 360 owners later this year and soon for Xbox 360 Preview Program members. Currently drives up to 2TB in size are supported and you can plug in up to two external drives at once. They can be under 2TB but they cannot be above 2TB. In addition, the system will no longer reserve space in advance on your hard drive. If you are using 16GB of hard drive storage for games, the hard drive will only take up 16GB of storage and no more.
Microsoft stated that supported for external hard drives on Xbox 360 was a top requested feature on the Xbox Feedback website and they said going forward will continue to use that as the basis for future updates to both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
