When Microsoft announced the Xbox One S, they revealed that besides the fact that it will be 40% smaller than the previous Xbox One and that it features a new redesigned controller, the new Xbox One S will also feature HDR. HDR, which will be supported by upcoming games like Gears of War 4, will enhance the colour of games, and will make characters and environments ‘pop’. Much have been said about resolution, but according to Microsoft, HDR is the next step.
So when it came to adopting a standard, Microsoft opted for HDR10. There are a number of implementations of this in the market including Dolby Vision. Sony and Samsung TV sets already support HDR 10, however when buying a new 4K HDR Ready TV set, you must ensure that the TV actually supports the new standard.
The new Xbox One S will launch in August, and will retail from $299. The launch will be worldwide.
