A new update is rolling out to Xbox One owners, adding the core elements required for large Xbox One features coming in 2015. Although the features are not currently available to use, the foundations are being laid for them to deploy later in the year.
The update adds some basic assets for Xbox One game streaming, which launches alongside Windows 10 at the end of the month. Also bundled within the update are foundations for the Xbox One backwards compatibility feature launching this fall.
“This update prepares for game streaming to Windows 10 (launching July 29th) and our upcoming Backward Compatibility feature launching in a few months. There are no new user-facing features in this release as the team focuses on the New Xbox One Experience that will be available later this year.”
It is obvious that many major features are being held back for the end of the year, to complement the large catalogue of releases, and the New Xbox One Experience, a redesigned dashboard revealed at E3 2015. Not only will the overhaul complement this year’s titles, but the update is set to drastically increase speed and efficiency, and streamline the Xbox One experience. Cortana support will also be added.
