Xbox makes five Ubisoft games free to play, Odyssey included

Xbox has put five Ubisoft games into Free Play Days, an unusually heavy lineup for a promotion that normally runs to two or three titles.

Xbox Wire lists Far Cry 6, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones and The Crew Motorfest.

Which Xbox games are free right now

All five, for anyone with an active Game Pass subscription that includes online console multiplayer.

These are full versions rather than trials. Progress and achievements carry over if you buy afterwards, and any purchase during the window takes the sale price.

A PC Game Pass subscription alone will not unlock the console versions.

Xbox has not said when the promotion ends. Free Play Days usually runs for a long weekend.

Which one to play first

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the deepest by a distance, and the hardest to finish in a promotional window.

Its Steam listing credits seven Ubisoft studios, led by Ubisoft Quebec, and the game has been out since October 2018. Treat the weekend as a sampler rather than a campaign run.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is the technical showcase and the one most likely to sell you on a Series X.

Skull and Bones is the most divisive, and the cheapest to form your own opinion about when it costs nothing. Far Cry 6 and The Crew Motorfest are the comfortable picks, both built for short sessions.

Check your storage first

Five open world games is a lot of space, and Avatar and Odyssey in particular are not small.

Anyone planning to try more than one should start the downloads well before they intend to play. That advice has not changed since console install sizes first started climbing.

Five titles from one publisher reads less like a sampler and more like a catalog push, which usually means a sale is attached and the trial is the shop window.

The five span 2018 to 2024. None is new, and that is the point: this is about clearing the shelf for people who skipped them.

Ubisoft has spent recent years moving its back catalog through subscriptions and trials rather than discounts alone.

If you own a Series S and have been putting off the bigger open world games because of storage, the calculation has not changed.

If you have a Series X and a spare weekend, Avatar justifies the hardware and Odyssey is the one you will still be playing in a month.

Free Play Days is also how Microsoft measures interest without discounting. A title that converts well during a free weekend tends to reappear in the next sale, so the lineup doubles as a signal of what Ubisoft wants to shift this quarter.

None of the five is a recent release, and all are routinely discounted, so the real value here is trying before paying rather than any saving.
