Roblox installs on a Chromebook as the Android app from the Google Play Store, and on a school Chromebook it installs only after the school's IT administrator allows Android apps and approves Roblox in the Google Admin console.

Ways to play Roblox on a Chromebook, and which one works
Roblox documents one route on ChromeOS: the Android app from the Google Play Store. Find your situation in the first column.
| Your Chromebook | Can you install Roblox? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Personal Chromebook with the Play Store | Yes | Install Roblox from Google Play |
| School or work Chromebook with no Play Store | Not until the administrator allows it | Ask the school IT administrator to allow Android apps and either push Roblox to the device or let students install it |
| Chromebook that does not support Android apps | No | Play on a Windows PC, a Mac, an Android phone or tablet, or an Xbox |
| A third-party Roblox website such as Now.gg | Not a route Roblox documents | Sign in to Roblox only on roblox.com or in the official Roblox app |
| Linux turned on in ChromeOS | No | Roblox lists Linux as not supported |
On a managed Chromebook, the administrator decides which Android apps users can install. The second row is a request to the school's IT staff, not a setting a student can change.
Download Roblox for Chromebook from the Google Play Store
The Chromebook app is the Android version of the Roblox mobile app, published on Google Play by Roblox Corporation as a free install with in-app purchases.
Select Install on that listing from the Chromebook itself. Android apps already on a phone or tablet do not download to a Chromebook automatically, so Roblox has to be installed again on the Chromebook even if the same account has it on a phone.

Turn on the Google Play Store and install Roblox on ChromeOS
Roblox Support sets two conditions before the app will run: ChromeOS up to date, and the Google Play Store enabled in the device settings, because the Chromebook app is the Android version.
- At the bottom right, select the time, then Settings. At the bottom left, select About ChromeOS, then Check for updates. Roblox requires Chrome OS version 53 or above.
- Back in Settings, select Apps, then Manage Google Play preferences.
- In the window that opens, select More, then follow the on-screen instructions to accept the Terms of Service.
- Open the Play Store, search for Roblox, and select Install.
- Open the Launcher at the bottom left. Roblox appears there once the install finishes; start it from the Launcher.
If Manage Google Play preferences is not in Settings, Google's wording is that the Chromebook does not work with Android apps. The Play Store and any apps installed from it are available only to the account that signed in first; to use Roblox under another account, sign out of all accounts and sign in with that one.
Install Roblox through managed Google Play on a school Chromebook
On a school Chromebook, Android apps are controlled from the school's Google Admin console, and only an administrator account can open it. These are the administrator's steps to put Roblox on student Chromebooks.
- Sign in to the Google Admin console with an administrator account.
- Go to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > User app settings. Under Additional app settings, select Android apps on Chrome Devices, select Allow users to install Android apps, and select Save.
- Go to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions, select Users & browsers at the top, and choose the organizational unit that holds the student accounts.
- Select Add > Add from Google Play, search for Roblox, select it, and select Select. Select Accept to accept the app's permissions for the organization.
- Set Roblox to Force install to install it automatically on every Chromebook in that unit, or to Allow install so students can install it themselves from managed Google Play.
Google marks the option to let users install any app from managed Google Play as not available for education domains, so a school cannot simply open the whole store; Roblox has to be added by name. Admin console settings typically take effect in minutes and can take up to an hour to reach everyone.
Roblox requirements on ChromeOS, Windows, Mac and Linux
| Platform or item | What Roblox requires |
|---|---|
| Chromebook / ChromeOS | Chrome OS version 53 or above, kept up to date, with the Google Play Store enabled. Runs the Android app. |
| Windows | 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. |
| Mac | macOS 10.13 High Sierra or higher. |
| Linux | Not supported, which includes the Linux environment in ChromeOS. |
| Mouse on a Chromebook | Bluetooth mice and other Bluetooth pointing devices do not work with the Roblox app. |
| Internet connection | Required. Roblox recommends at least 4-8 Mb/s for a single-use household and says the app works best over Wi-Fi. |
What is Now.gg Roblox, and how does playing Roblox in a browser work?
On Windows and Mac, roblox.com is where you sign in and choose an experience; selecting the green Play button installs the Roblox Player app, and the experience runs in that app. Roblox lists supported browsers for its website on Windows and Mac only, and for ChromeOS it names the Google Play Store app.
| Route | Where the game runs | Documented by Roblox |
|---|---|---|
| roblox.com in Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge on Windows | Roblox Player, installed the first time you select Play | Yes |
| roblox.com in Chrome, Firefox or Safari on Mac | Roblox Player, installed the first time you select Play | Yes |
| Chromebook | The Android app from Google Play | Yes, Chrome OS 53 or above with Google Play enabled |
| Now.gg | Not described by Roblox | No mention on Roblox's requirements or install pages |
Now.gg is reached at its own address, now.gg, not roblox.com. Roblox's account safety page says to enter login information only on the official roblox.com website or on the login screen of the official Roblox apps.
Common Roblox problems on a Chromebook and how to fix them
The Play Store will not open, so Roblox cannot download
Google links this to a bad internet connection or out-of-date ChromeOS.
- Turn the Chromebook off, then turn it on again.
- Check the Wi-Fi connection, or switch to Ethernet.
- Select the time, then Settings > About ChromeOS > Check for updates, and install any update.
The Roblox download stopped on a school Chromebook
On a force-installed app, selecting STOP during the download cancels that attempt only.
- Sign out of the Chromebook and sign back in.
- Wait for the install to start again. ChromeOS retries at each sign-in until Roblox installs or the administrator removes it from the force-install list.
Roblox is frozen or will not close
The Roblox process is still running.
- In Chrome, select More at the top right, then More tools, then Task Manager.
- Select the Roblox process and select End Process at the bottom right.
- Open Roblox again from the Launcher.
Roblox keeps crashing after you close and reopen it
Closing the app did not clear the fault, so Roblox Support's next step is a full power cycle.
- Sign out of the Chromebook, then turn it off.
- Leave it off for 30 seconds, then press the power button.
- Open Roblox again.
Roblox fails and the Chromebook shows the wrong date or time
Roblox Support lists an incorrect date and time as a fault to rule out on a Chromebook.
- At the bottom right, select the time, then Settings.
- Under System preferences, open Time zone and pick the correct zone, or choose Set automatically.
- Reopen Roblox.
Nothing above fixes it
Roblox Support's last fix before contacting it is a clean reinstall.
- Open the Launcher, right-click Roblox, and select Uninstall (older ChromeOS versions show Remove from Chrome). Select Uninstall to confirm.
- Reinstall Roblox from the Play Store.
- Still broken: contact Roblox Customer Support with your Roblox username, any error messages, your Chromebook model, your ChromeOS version (shown under About ChromeOS), and the steps that trigger the problem.
Roblox safety and account security on a shared Chromebook
A school Chromebook is shared, and Roblox warns that an account left logged in on a computer is open to anyone who uses that computer next. These settings protect the account on any device.
- Add and verify an email address on the account first. Roblox requires a verified email before 2-Step Verification can be turned on.
- Open Account Settings: the gear icon at the top right of roblox.com, or the three dots and then the gear in the mobile app.
- Open the Security tab and turn on the toggle for Authenticator App, the method Roblox recommends. Roblox names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo and Twilio Authy as apps to use.
- On the same tab, select Generate under the recovery codes section, enter the account password, and save the codes somewhere other than the Chromebook. Roblox shows them only once.
- Log out of Roblox at the end of every session on a school Chromebook.
Roblox allows one 2-Step Verification method at a time. Security keys work only with the authenticator method also enabled, so a lost key does not lock you out.
If a login prompt appears on your phone that you did not trigger, deny it. Roblox says this means someone might have your password and recommends changing it. Roblox employees never ask for a password, browser cookies, 2-Step Verification codes or backup codes, and Roblox tells players to report anyone who does with Report Abuse.
Roblox on Chromebook FAQ
Can you play Roblox on a Chromebook?
Yes, on a Chromebook that supports Android apps. Roblox is installed from the Google Play Store and runs as the Android version of the app. The device needs Chrome OS version 53 or above, kept up to date, and the Play Store enabled in settings.
Does Roblox work on a school Chromebook?
Only if the school allows it. Google states that on a work or school Chromebook you might not be able to add the Google Play Store or download Android apps, and directs you to the administrator, who can approve Roblox or force-install it from the Google Admin console.
Why is there no Google Play Store on my Chromebook?
Two reasons are possible. The Chromebook may be a model that does not support Android apps, which Google says is the case when Manage Google Play preferences is missing from Settings. On a managed school or work device, the administrator may not have turned Android apps on.
Is Roblox free to download on a Chromebook?
Yes. The Google Play listing shows Roblox as a free install from Roblox Corporation, with in-app purchases. Robux and items inside experiences cost money, but downloading the app and playing does not.
Can you download Roblox on a Chromebook without the Play Store?
No supported route exists. Roblox's ChromeOS requirement is the Google Play Store, and the Chromebook app is the Android version of the Roblox mobile app. On a school Chromebook, the administrator can install Roblox for you through managed Google Play.
Is there a Roblox extension for Chromebook?
No. Roblox states that it does not create browser extensions and that no official Roblox browser extension exists. An extension offering Roblox comes from a third-party developer, and Roblox warns that an extension can compromise a Roblox account.
Does Roblox work on Chromebook Linux?
No. Roblox's own operating system requirements list Windows 10 and 11, macOS 10.13 or higher, and Chrome OS 53 or above with Google Play, and state that Roblox is not supported on Linux. The Linux environment in ChromeOS falls under that.
Why does my mouse not work in Roblox on a Chromebook?
Roblox states that the app does not work with Bluetooth mice or other Bluetooth pointing devices. Use the Chromebook touchpad or a mouse that does not connect over Bluetooth, such as a wired USB mouse.
How do I fix Roblox crashing on a Chromebook?
End the Roblox process in the Chrome Task Manager, then sign out, turn the Chromebook off for 30 seconds and turn it back on. If it still crashes, uninstall Roblox from the Launcher and reinstall it from the Play Store.
Can you use Roblox Studio on a Chromebook?
The Chromebook install is the Android player, not Studio. Roblox describes Studio as a Windows or Mac tool and documents its requirements separately from the player's, so building experiences is a job for a Windows PC or a Mac.
Which Chromebooks can run Roblox?
Any Chromebook that supports Android apps and runs Chrome OS 53 or above. Google notes that the Play Store is available on only some Chromebooks, and that Manage Google Play preferences appearing in Settings is the check.
