The lead developer for id Software’s 2016 reboot of Doom, Taigo Sousa, has claimed that the Xbox Scorpio’s focus on 4K gaming is a “waste of resources” and agreed with other users on Twitter that the systems 6 teraflops of processing power should be instead used to improve upon graphics being displayed in 1920×1080 instead.
Sousa claims that due to the amount of distance the player will be sitting from their televisions that they won’t be seeing much of a difference between 4K and 1080p gaming and that instead, developers should focus on smoothing their games through better anti-aliasing techniques instead.
