Google Play Games is free on Windows 11 and Windows 10 PCs and through the Play Store app on Android, but Google offers no Mac or iPhone version, and the Play Store itself runs only on Android devices and supported Chromebooks.

Which Google Play download do you need?
Windows PCs, Android devices and supported Chromebooks each reach Google Play through a different official route; Macs and iPhones have no Google Play download.
| Your device | Official route | Link |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 or Windows 10 PC or laptop | Google Play Games on PC, a Windows app that plays mobile games from the Play catalog | play.google.com/googleplaygames |
| Android phone or tablet | The Google Play Store app is already on the device; tap your profile picture, then tap Join Google Play Games | Google Play Games for Android |
| Chromebook | Turn on the Google Play Store in ChromeOS settings; only some Chromebooks support it | Android apps on Chromebook |
| Mac | Google offers no Google Play Store or Google Play Games download for macOS | None |
| iPhone or iPad | No Google Play Store on iOS; Google points iPhone owners to Google Play Games on a Windows PC | Google Play Games on PC |
Download Google Play Games for Windows 11 and Windows 10
Google distributes the Windows installer from play.google.com/googleplaygames. The PC catalog lists titles available on Windows, so you can check for a game before you install anything.
- Google Play Games on PC: the official Windows installer; select Download on PC
- Games available on PC: the PC catalog, with its own Download button
Google Play Games on PC is available in more than 140 regions, including the United States, and needs a personal Google Account with its Play country set to a supported region.
How to play Android games on PC with Google Play Games
- On your Windows computer, go to play.google.com/googleplaygames and click Download.
- Open the downloaded file and follow the instructions. Installation can take a few minutes, and it stops with a notice if the PC misses a minimum requirement.
- If the installer prompts you to turn on Windows Hypervisor Platform, accept, then restart the PC so the setting takes effect.
- Sign in with the same Google Account you use on your phone so your game library and progress sync across devices.
- Search for a game and click Install.
- Launch the game to confirm everything works. If it will not start, turn on CPU virtualization in the BIOS (steps in the fixes below).
Only the first Windows user who installed Google Play Games on PC can open it and play games on that computer.
Google Play Games on PC system requirements and download size
The installer checks these before it continues. Google states the free storage space needed, not an installer file size.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 (v2004) | Windows 10 (v2004) |
| Storage | Solid state drive (SSD) with 10 GB of available storage space | Solid state drive (SSD) with 10 GB of available storage space |
| Memory | 8 GB of RAM | 8 GB of RAM |
| Graphics | Intel UHD Graphics 630 GPU or comparable | Gaming-class GPU, like Nvidia GeForce MX450 |
| Processor | 4 CPU physical cores | 8 logical cores |
| Account | Windows admin account | Windows admin account |
| Virtualization | Hardware virtualization must be turned on | Hardware virtualization must be turned on |
Set the SSD up as the main drive. In the catalog you can filter out games that may not run well on your PC, and a game's details page shows a performance warning when it does not run well.
Is Google Play Games free?
Yes: Google charges nothing to use Google Play Games on mobile or PC. Individual games or in-game items can cost money. For select paid titles, a single purchase unlocks both the mobile and PC versions, and game trials let you try some paid games at no cost.
Can you download Google Play Games on Mac?
No. Google publishes Google Play Games on PC for Windows only, and there is no Mac download. Google's PC requirements list Windows 10 (v2004) as the minimum operating system, and its Google Play supported-devices list covers Android and ChromeOS devices only. On a Mac, the legitimate options are a game's own macOS version where its publisher offers one, or playing the Google Play version on an Android device or a Windows PC with the same Google Account.
Google Play Games on iPhone and Android
On Android the Play Store app is built in: open it, tap your profile picture, tap Join Google Play Games and follow the steps to create a gamer profile. To install a game, search for it and tap Install.
iPhone and iPad have no Google Play Store. Google's own answer for iPhone owners is Google Play Games on a Windows PC, where many games that are also on iOS are playable. The iOS version of a game comes from Apple's App Store.
- Google Play Games for Android and PC: join from the Play Store app on Android, or download the Windows app
- Apple App Store: the official source of iPhone and iPad versions of mobile games
Install the Google Play Store on a Chromebook
Only some Chromebooks support Android apps. A work or school Chromebook may block the Play Store, and only its administrator can change that.
- Update ChromeOS first.
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Settings > Apps > Manage Google Play preferences. If the option is missing, the Chromebook does not work with Android apps.
- In the window that opens, select More and follow the on-screen instructions to agree to the Terms of Service.
- Open the Play Store from the Launcher at the bottom left and download your games again; the Chromebook does not copy them over from your phone.
The Play Store and its apps belong to the account that signed in first on the Chromebook.
Fix Google Play Games not downloading or installing on PC
Games will not start after Google Play Games installs
CPU virtualization is off in the BIOS or UEFI, and many games in the catalog need it.
- Select Start > Power > Restart.
- During startup, repeatedly press the BIOS hotkey; common keys are F2, F10, F12 or Delete.
- Open the Advanced, CPU Configuration or Security tab and find the setting named Intel Virtualization Technology, VT-x, AMD-V or SVM Mode.
- Change it to Enabled, choose Save and Exit (often the F10 key), and restart into Windows.
- If the setting is not there, ask the PC manufacturer for instructions for your model.
Error NU80070005 or NU80070542: you must have full Windows administrator privileges
The installer is running from a Windows account without administrator rights.
- Open the Windows menu and search for administrator rights settings.
- If you have access, update the account's privileges there; otherwise run the installer from a Windows admin account, which Google lists as a requirement.
- Run the installer again.
Error NU80070070: there isn't enough storage space to continue
The C: drive has less than the 10GB the installation needs.
- Free at least 10GB on the C: drive, or on the other drive you install to.
- Run the installer again.
Error NU8001008, NU80040811 or NUFFFFFFFF: upgrade Windows
The Windows version is too old for the installer.
- Open Windows Update and install a later Windows version; even a minor upgrade, such as Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2, can fix it.
- Run the installer again.
Error NU80040806: Play Games isn't available in this region
Your Play country is outside the supported regions.
- Check the country or region list on Google's eligibility page.
- Confirm the Play country on your Google Account is set to a supported region, then try again.
Errors 10901, 99999, NU80040804, NU80040801 or NU80072F8F during install
A temporary problem on Google's side, a failed installer download or an unstable network.
- Download the installer again from play.google.com/googleplaygames and run it.
- If it fails again, restart the PC and try once more.
- If NU80072F8F or NU80040801 repeats, check your connection or connect to a different network.
- If nothing works, run the installer, click Send feedback when the issue appears, check Send system information, enter #gpginstall in the message box and click Send.
Other Android emulators stopped working after installing Google Play Games
Windows Hypervisor Platform, which Google Play Games asks to turn on, stops some other emulators from working.
- Open the Control Panel and select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select Turn Windows features on or off.
- Expand Hyper-V > Hyper-V Platform and deselect Hyper-V Hypervisor. On Windows 10 Home, deselect Windows Hypervisor Platform instead.
- Restart the PC. Google Play Games may prompt you to turn the setting back on the next time it runs.
Fix Google Play Store not downloading apps on Android and Chromebook
Downloads on an Android phone stay stuck or never start
A weak connection, low storage or a wrong clock stops Play Store downloads.
- Switch to a strong Wi-Fi network if you can.
- Open Settings > Storage; free up space if less than 1 GB is available.
- Open Settings > System > Software update > System update and install any update.
- Under Settings > System > Date & time, turn on Set time automatically and, under the time zone, Set automatically.
- Close the Play Store, restart the phone and try the download again.
The Play Store will not open or load on a Chromebook
An outdated ChromeOS version or a bad internet connection.
- Turn the Chromebook off, then on again.
- Check the internet connection.
- Update ChromeOS, then open the Play Store again.
How to uninstall Google Play Games from a Windows PC
- Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Google Play Games and select More > Uninstall.
- If it cannot be removed there, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, right-click it and select Uninstall.
- To repair a broken install, restart the PC and run a fresh installer from play.google.com/googleplaygames.
Frequently asked questions
How do I download the Google Play Store on PC?
The Google Play Store app does not run on Windows. For games, download Google Play Games on PC from play.google.com/googleplaygames; it installs on Windows 10 (v2004) or later and plays mobile games from the Play catalog with a keyboard and mouse.
Can I download Google Play apps on my laptop?
On a Windows laptop, Google Play Games on PC installs and plays mobile games from its PC catalog. On a Chromebook that supports Android apps, turn on the Google Play Store in Settings and install apps and games normally. Mac laptops have no official route.
Can I download Google Play on Windows 11?
Google Play Games installs on Windows 11 if the PC meets the requirements. Windows Subsystem for Android, which ran Amazon Appstore apps rather than Google Play, left the Microsoft Store on March 5, 2025, so it is no longer an option.
Why can't I download Google Play Games on PC?
The usual causes are a missed hardware requirement, a Play country outside the supported regions, a Windows account without administrator rights, under 10GB free on the C: drive, or virtualization turned off. The installer names the missing item, and each error code has a fix above.
Can I download Google Play on iPhone?
No. Google Play supports Android and ChromeOS devices only, so iPhone and iPad have no Play Store. Get the iOS version of a game from Apple's App Store, or play the Google Play version on a Windows PC with Google Play Games on PC.
Can I download Google Play on a Fire tablet?
Google supports Google Play only on Play Protect certified devices on its supported devices list. Search the Android device list for your exact tablet model; a device that is not listed may not work with Google Play, and the tablet maker can confirm.
Why won't Google Play let me download an app?
On Android, check for a strong connection, at least 1 GB of free storage, a current system update and automatic date and time. Then close the Play Store, restart the device and try the download again.
What does Google Play Games give me?
A catalog of over 200,000 games across mobile and PC, one gamer profile with synced progress and achievements, Google Play Points you can use toward game purchases, and game trials for some paid titles. Using it costs nothing.
Can more than one Windows user use Google Play Games on the same PC?
No. Only the first Windows user who installed Google Play Games on PC can open it and play games. Each Google Account gets one gamer profile, so sign in with the same account on your phone and PC to keep progress in sync.
Will Google Play Games break my other emulators?
It can. Google Play Games may ask to turn on Windows Hypervisor Platform, and some other emulators do not work while it is on. Deselect Hyper-V Hypervisor in Windows features and restart to use them again.
