Fix Rust not downloading or installing
Steam says there is not enough disk space for Rust
Rust needs 45 GB free on the install drive, and the recommended spec requires an SSD.
- Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove games or apps you no longer use.
- Point the Rust install at an SSD with 45 GB free.
- Retry the install from the Steam library.
Rust installs but will not start or closes on launch
A damaged or incomplete install is the usual cause, and Steam can check it file by file.
- Close Rust and restart the PC.
- Run Steam's Verify Integrity of Game Files check on Rust and let Steam redownload anything missing.
- Launch Rust again from the Steam library.
Rust Console Edition will not connect to servers
The console edition is online-only and needs a paid online subscription.
- On Xbox, confirm Game Pass Core or Ultimate is active on the account.
- On PlayStation, confirm PlayStation Plus is active; the store page states PS Plus required for online play.
- Install any pending game update and try again.
Rust will not open on a Mac
The Mac falls below the macOS minimum of Apple M1, 12 GB RAM and macOS Monterey (version 12).
- Compare the Mac's chip, memory and macOS version with that minimum.
- If the chip and memory meet it but macOS is older, update macOS and relaunch Rust from Steam.
- Confirm the drive still has 45 GB free for the game.
How to uninstall Rust
- Uninstall Rust from your Steam library.
- Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows.
- Find Easy Anti-Cheat in the list and select More > Uninstall, because Steam notes it requires manual removal after game uninstall.
- If it cannot be removed in Settings, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and uninstall it there.
