With an Assassin’s Creed movie due out at the end of 2016, you would think it would be a smart business plan to release a game sometime around the movies release date. A rumor has surfaced however stating that there will be no Assassin’s Creed game this year and that the game that was originally scheduled for 2016 will be set in Egypt and will now release sometime in 2017.
Kotaku has reported that they have numerous sources that are aware of what Ubisoft is doing with the next Assassin’s Creed and that they believe that this rumor is true. Kotaku has a good history with leaking Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed plans. They leaked Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Rouge, and Syndicate all around this time each year. Each rumor or leak always ended up being true regarding those Assassin’s Creed games so I would say it may be safe to assume 2016 will not have a new Assassin’s Creed game.
The delay of this game probably comes after the terrible performance of Assassins Creed: Unity. Players demanded Ubisoft either stop making the games entirely or take time off and come back with a solid new entry for the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
I wouldn’t count out an Assassins Creed release 100% though, a few weeks ago it was leaked that an Assassin’s Creed collection may be coming sometime in 2016 which may fill the gap and help promote the new Assassin’s Creed film.
