Forza Horizon 3 may already be in development at Playground Games

Forza Horizon 2 launched last September on both Xbox One and Xbox 360 to countless positive reviews and since then, monthly content updates. The game was also one of the biggest for Microsoft’s Holiday 2014 season as marked in their FY15 Q2 earnings call. As we approach the end-of-support for Forza Horizon 2, it’s time to look forward. Turn 10 are already preparing for Forza Motorsport 6 this fall and Playground Games are working on a new secret project.

The information comes from Playground Games bio on Twitter which was recently updated to acknowledge that the studio is indeed working on a new project, stating they are “now working on top secret stuff.” Playground Games have only ever made two games, Forza Horizon and Forza Horizon 2. Both games have received great reception from fans so there’s no doubt that Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios are already working with the studio on the next entry into the franchise.

It’s also important to note, I still expect there will be one final expansion announced for Forza Horizon 2 which should be announced during Microsoft’s E3 2015 Media Briefing and released shortly afterwards. The expansion will most likely conclude content support for Forza Horizon 2.

I’ve also recently learned that in the future, Microsoft plans on adding a third entry into the Forza series, separate from Motorsport and Horizon and switching Forza into a three-year development cycle. It’s unknown when the company plan to start such a project and whether a studio has even been selected for it. I’ve also heard Playground Games however, will remain committed to the next entry to the Forza Horizon series.

Overall, stay tuned. E3 is coming and we’re going to hear some immense Forza Motorsport 6 news during Microsoft’s E3 2015 Media Briefing. Don’t expect a Forza Horizon 3 announcement or release until 2016 at the earliest, but do remember that 2015 is the 10 year anniversary of Forza Motorsport and Dan Greenawalt has confirmed this will be “the biggest year in Forza history” and that fans will be very pleased with Forza Motorsport 6.
