Exclusive games and unprecedented technology set the Xbox One apart from the competition according to Kudo Tsunoda

According to Xbox’s Kudo Tsunoda, the Xbox One has “a lot more going on” than the competition. In an interview with Games Industry International, Tsunoda said that features like backwards compatibility, cross-play, and cross-buy with Windows 10, put the Xbox One in a unique position. When commenting on these exclusive features, Tsunoda added, “It’s a really unique value that only we can offer. You still need very gamer-focused values, but there’s lots of things you can do with our technology. We’ve really got a lot more going on than our competitors. We’re doing things that can’t be done on any other console.”

If you look at the Crackdown 3 gameplay Microsoft debuted at Gamescom, the unprecedented destruction featured in that game is only possible with intricate cloud-computing technology. This is another unique feature that no other gaming company thought was possible. Some of the individuals who worked on competing consoles even went as far as saying that cloud-powered destruction wasn’t possible for the next decade. For example, when Sony’s Mark Cerny was asked if certain calculations could be outsourced to the cloud to improve graphics, he said, “trying to boost the quality of the graphics…won’t work well in the cloud.” It would be interesting to find out what the skeptics have to say about Crackdown 3’s gameplay now.

Alluding to Andrew House’s “a little sparse” admission, the interviewer went on to ask Tsunoda about exclusive games and how they added to a console’s appeal. According to Tsunoda, not only does the Xbox One have features and functionality that can’t be found or delivered on competing platforms, but the console has a bigger lineup of exclusives than anyone else. He said, “There’s a reason we’re able to put on two shows of content together. We’ve got seven exclusives coming this holiday. We’re giving people a lot more.” Some of Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One exclusives for this year include Halo 5: Guardians, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fable Legends, and Forza Motorsport 6. It gets even better next year with Quantum Break, Sea of Thieves, ReCore, Scalebound, Gears of War 4, Crackdown 3, Cuphead, and Ashen.

Lastly, Tsunoda went on to talk a little about the Microsoft’s plans for game streaming on other devices apart from Windows 10 computers. He said that Microsoft’s long-term goal was to make their games available to customers “wherever they want, on whatever device they choose”. Do you think we’ll be able to stream Xbox One games on our Windows 10 Mobile devices soon? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
