The first gameplay from the upcoming prequel to 2008’s Mirror’s Edge, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst was debuted on stage today at the EA 2015 Gamescom press conference. We were given nearly five minutes of gameplay from a story mission, which showed the main protagonist, Faith, entering an Elysium building. After entering, she finds that the supposed agricultural research complex has a darker secret.
The gameplay shows more ways in which Faith can interact with the environment, including new movement options. As Mirror’s Edge also has a lack of weapons this time around, the close quarters combat is much more fluid than its predecessor.
“In this first Mirror’s Edge Catalyst gameplay trailer, experience the moment where Faith begins her rise from a carefree runner to the hero the city needs. Playing in first person allows players to feel her fluid movement, combat and power.
At the beginning of the game, Faith is released from juvenile detention, and her long-time mentor, Noah, has welcomed her back to the Runner’s lair. He now trusts Faith enough to give her a true Runner’s job. She is tasked to break into the Elysium building in the Downtown district to find a terminal where she can get access to important information. However, things don’t go as planned as Gabriel Kruger makes an unannounced visit to the facility…”
Up next we saw Star Wars: Battlefront gameplay. The developers unveiled a new mode called Fighter Squadron which features aerial combat. The gameplay finally showed us the inside of the Millennium Falcon which looks rather stunning.
Lastly, Unravel made an appearance and the gameplay was just charming. The title mostly revolves around solving physics-based puzzles to progress further. Yarny tends to…wait for it…unravel the further you go so you have to figure out how to get to the end of the level before the yarn runs out and Yarny is no more.
