Update: As pointed out by Windows Central, it sounds like Crackdown 3 could launch before holiday 2017. After it was confirmed that the game would launch in 2017, another question was asked wanting to know if it would be holiday 2017. One of the developers replies, “yep,” to this question, but shortly after it also sounds like another developer says, “or earlier”/”earlier,” hinting that there is a possibility it could release in Q3 2017, although I would expect it in Q4. It was difficult to make out what exactly was said at first. This exchange begins around 2:26:00.
During Xbox’s recent Extra Life 2016 stream, the developers of Crackdown provided some information as to when Crackdown 3 will release.
The Twitch stream, which can be viewed here, is around 11 hours long, but the developers of Crackdown start answering some questions beginning around 2:06:00. According to them, Crackdown 3 is set to release holiday 2017. This coincides with the release of Project Scorpio, and the developers stated that Crackdown 3 would support native 4K resolution on Scorpio as well. For those who don’t know, Microsoft said that all of their first-party games will support native 4K resolution on Xbox Scorpio going forward.
The developers also confirmed that Xbox is still working on bringing the original Crackdown to Xbox One backward compatibility, but they do not have a firm date as to when that will be.
Microsoft has been pretty quiet about Crackdown 3 lately, and we likely won’t hear a lot more until next year’s E3.
