Battlefield 5 might be set in World War I according to Swiss retailer

Battlefield 5 is reportedly going to be a tactical shooter set during the World War I era according to a Swiss retail listing. The listing can be seen on Swiss site World of Games, and also lists the release date as October 26, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows. That is a Wednesday, an unusual release day for games, but it is also the Swiss date and conforms to a United States release date of Tuesday October 25, which is a standard day for games.

At the top of the page, you can see the listing state “Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg” which translates to “tactical multiplayer shooter in World War I”. We can’t confirm or deny any of this yet, but we have reached out to DICE and EA for comment. Hopefully we’ll get a response soon.

This corroborates a leak that happened on IMDb a few months ago which said that Battlefield 5 featured a Japanese soldier fighting to go back home. Believe it or not, Japan actually fought against Germany in World War I. I don’t think playing as a Japanese solider supporting Hitler and Nazi Germany would go over well so we always knew it would be set during World War I.

Japan participated in World War I from 1914-1918 in an alliance that played an important role in securing the sea lanes in the West Pacific and Indian Oceans against the Imperial German Navy. They supported the war against Germany in order to expand their influence in China.
