Call of Duty: Roman Wars was an experiment Activision wanted to do but it never made it beyond the usual development hell. There was even prototype footage which showcased some amazing gameplay. According to a report by IGN, “GamesRadar got ahold of some footage of an early build of the game, titled Call of Duty: Roman Wars…Activision was looking to experiment with the series back in 2008, and was taking pitches from various developers. At that time, Skylanders and Guitar Hero developer Vicarious Visions started work on Roman Wars, which centered around Julius Caesar’s tenth legion.”
The game featured both first-person and third-person gameplay where players would take on various roles, including officers, archers and grunts. Sounds like Ryse: Son of Rome, doesn’t it? What do you think of the gameplay? Let us know.
