This week’s community column is more diverse than it’s ever been. Gamers come from all walks of life and are even looked at in today’s culture as cool. Gone are the days of the stigma of gamers live in their basement never to be seen from again. Another group of gamers who is making a big splash showing off their skills are the girl gamers or the best term used “gamer girl”.
It’s important to note that a “girl gamer” is just like any other gamer out there. We first and foremost love gaming. We play games just like any ordinary male gamer. We sit in front of our platform of choice, throwing controllers and get frustrated at games from time to time. We also love mixing it up with the male gamers in our favorite shooters and talking trash with the best of them. For example, when we just did an execution as a pilot in a game like Titanfall, on a fellow gamer. Most of us “gamer girls” like to keep up with the latest games and technology and, heck, even geek out with our male counterparts. Today’s gamer girls in the community are strong-willed, hardworking and, above all else, love gaming with friends.
We are extremely lucky to have some fantastic gamer girls in our community. These gamers have real opinions about the games they play and platform they support. Some of these gamer girls have YouTube channels or Twitch streams to show their passion for gaming. I reached out to a couple of the community gamer girls and asked them what drives them to play games and be a part of the community.
Fox Fire says, “This may sound kind of cheesy but it’s a great escape from life. It’s fun and feels awesome to play against others and I can experience other things that I can’t in real life.”
Lady Infamous says, “The adventure of being somebody else , the achievements, having fun with new new people. The thrill of it all.”
OhSnap Sukaz says, “I am driven to play video games, as an escape from everyday responsibilities of adulthood. The feeling of kicking back playing a game with my friends and family releases stress while rejuvenating my mind.”
Delilah HD says, “I love new experiences…Lately, work has gotten in the way but honestly, it has been an important part of my life. I have been playing since five.”
MamaCita says, “I enjoy the challenges, the storytelling. It’s a way of escape for me too. I’ve always been a fantasy, romantic movie type so playing games that speak to that is very gratifying for me.”
The definition of gamer is “a person who plays a game or games, typically a participant in a computer or role-playing game.” A person is known for consistently making a strong effort in whatever they do. This, in my opinion, best describes each of the females in this community. Even with the stereotype of “girl gamers” out there and the males who may believe them to be true, these gamer girls have proven more than enough that they know how to game and what they’re doing. You can find any of these females I talked about on Twitter or YouTube. They are Xbox gamers. Check out a couple of videos of the ladies who you may know or may not know. With that this week’s spotlight gamer goes to all these ladies this week.
