Dying Light passes 7 million legal players, additional 3 million pirated game

Dying Light has passed 7 million players according to the latest numbers. Keep in mind that this is before the release of The Following expansion and Enhanced Edition so it might be more. What’s more shocking is that the number could’ve been 10 million but according to estimates, almost 3 million people have pirated the title. Yes, you heard that right. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Techland’s CEO Pawel Marchewka said:

Dying Light was a success in Techland’s eyes, and there are apparently seven million people playing the game legally, but three million playing pirated copies. “With this new version we’re hoping that people will come to the legal version,” says Marchewka. “We have finances for the next project, so it’s fine, they still enjoy the game. The most important thing is that the game is very popular. I can honestly say we are happy with the results, also with the number of players and the general perception of the game. It’s one of those times I can say it’s been a great success and I think we made a lot of good decisions.”

It’s great to see that the game has had this much success. Hopefully the number will climb even more now that The Following has released and overhauls the game. I can’t wait for Techland’s next project because Dying Light is just a fantastic experience.
