The Technical Director for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Windows 10 said in a forums post that the team has discussed the possibility of cross-play for the game.
The lengthy post on the Gears of War forums was to detail an update scheduled for Gears of War: UE this week. After talking about the update, the post goes on to cover some common questions from fans, one of which being cross-play.
Regarding cross-play, the Technical Director says, “We have discussed this (we talk about everything you guys are suggesting). We are going to make sure all game modes are working as expected and roll out the playlist changes and evaluate those. We’ll continue to discuss options to improve.”
It’s not a confirmation, but it is good to hear that the team is listening to fans and discussing it. Of course he goes on to say that they discuss everything that the fans suggest, but it is nice to know that that particular suggestion isn’t being ignored.
It should also be noted that Microsoft announced today that cross-network play was being enabled, starting with Rocket League. Although Rocket League is multiplatform on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this does open up more of a discussion when thinking about playing with people on other platforms. With more pressure from people wanting to play against their friends, this could be the push that is needed for Xbox One/PC cross-play to be brought to Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
