Amazon lists Mafia 3 release date as April 26

For the last few months Hanger 13 and 2K Games have been pretty silent on their upcoming project, Mafia 3. We know it’s due out sometime in 2016 but we don’t know when in 2016 specifically.

It has recently been discovered by users going to the Amazon page for Mafia 3 that it is listed to release on April 26th, 2015. While I am sure most of us would like to think this is true, it is highly unlikely it will release on this date. This doesn’t allow much time for marketing, we barely know anything about the game, and 2K or Hanger 13 hasn’t officially announced a release date!

Typically, retailers like Amazon use a placeholder date like 12/31/16 if they don’t know the exact release date but know the year the game is due out. April 26th is a oddly specific date with no real relevance to the Mafia series, 2K games, or Hanger 13.

2K games has released an official statement regarding the date.

“Mafia III will release in calendar 2016 during Take-Two Interactive’s fiscal year 2017. No official release date has been announced at this time. It is common practice for retailers to list placeholder dates before an official release date has been announced due to the requirements of their operating systems.”

Mafia 3 will release sometime in 2016, while not much is known about the game, it will take place in a fictionalized version of New Orleans and feature a black main character who has just gotten back from the war in Vietnam and has been wronged by a certain group of people. He will build up a small group of people to help him take down the organized crime gang and bring justice to the streets of the south. The game will feature the character Vito Scaletta from Mafia 2 and will bring some closure to the cliffhanger ending of Mafia 2. The game will also touch on some of the racial issues that were happening in that time period.
