A few weeks back we ran a story about a possible tease for Metal Gear Rising 2. The below stylised ‘2’ was unmistakably the font of Metal Gear Rising – Platinum Games’ incredible and futuristic slash em up based on Metal Gear’s Raiden. Metal Gear Rising is one of my all time favourite games, despite the polarisation it caused in mainstream critique. So imagine my hype when I saw this humble ‘2’ as part of a PS4 showreel.
Turns out the logo was simply to commemorate Metal Gear Rising’s 2nd Anniversary, sadly.

The tweet roughly translates to: “From designer Zhao & Nishii, “MGR” 2nd anniversary commemorative illustration!”
Platinum Games have previously released surveys to gauge interest in a sequel to Raiden’s brutally gory slasher, and are currently entrenched in development on the Xbox One exclusive Scalebound.
I sorely, sorely hope Konami do the right thing and license Platinum to build a sequel. MGR certainly had some problems (perhaps largely pertaining to not properly explaining to new players how the parry mechanic works), but retained that Metal Gear feel very authentically, in addition to delivering some of the most epic boss fights I have personally experienced.
Oh well, keep the faith!
