Microsoft acquires Surface pen technology from N-trig

Microsoft have been on a buying spree the past few months with the acquisitions of Accompli, Minecraft, Sunrise amongst others. Today, Microsoft have bought the technology used inside the Surface Pen from N-trig.

Microsoft have been partnered with N-trig for many years and even owned 6.1% of the company before the acquisition. The financial details of the acquisition were not discussed. The Surface Pen is bundled with every Surface Pro 3 device and will be an optional add-on for the upcoming Surface 3.

Stevie Bathiche from the Surface team at Microsoft said “We can’t wait to show you what we’ll deliver for our Surface Fans in the future. Digital pens have a ways to go to be as good as pen and paper on some dimensions, and we’ll get there. But more importantly, adding the ability to capture and share the work you do with a digital pen opens up possibilities that traditional pen and paper just can’t match. Today’s investment is another step that will let us push that innovation forward.”
