Microsoft shows off universal applications running on Xbox One

Microsoft revealed that universal applications were coming to the Xbox One many months ago but finally showed how they would function today. Kevin Gallo, the technical lead for universal applications, demonstrated a single program that seamlessly ran across phones, laptops, and consoles. The purpose of this was to let developers know that Microsoft is building a scalable interface for Windows 10 so that it is easier for universal programs to run across different devices.

Microsoft will release more details about when everyone can start creating universal applications at their upcoming Build conference in April. Gallo also revealed that Microsoft is planning to use hosted web applications in Windows 10. It is a new way for developers to bring their websites to the Windows Store. The web applications will have access to features like Cortana, notifications, contacts, calendar, and the camera. It is an easy way for Microsoft to quickly increase their catalog. We cannot wait to know more about this exciting feature.
