Microsoft Edge brings a lot of improvements to the Xbox One. Loading websites is faster and, despite the fact that it’s beta software, it enhances a lot of other features. When you use the YouTube app on the console, even with the fastest internet connection, the video quality is poor. According to user llloksd on Reddit, it’s limited to 720p 30 FPS. However, Microsoft Edge allows you to play YouTube videos at 1080p 60 FPS.
I tried this myself and was able to verify the results. I plugged in my ethernet cable to my Xbox One, watched a 1080p 60 FPS video in the new browser. I opened the same video in the YouTube app and the quality and frame rate were lower. I have to admit that the browser did crash on me once but it’s a beta so I can’t really complain about it. This is an amazing addition and I hope that the YouTube app can support it. If not, then at least I have a way of watching 60 FPS YouTube videos on my console.
