Phil Spencer wants apps to work during Xbox Live outages, background music put on hold to focus on other features

Xbox Live suffered an outage today for several hours. When programs like Netflix were initially introduced on the Xbox One, they required you to have an Xbox Live Gold membership. That requirement was removed but the existing systems that make the services dependent on Xbox Live still exist. Tom Warren asked Phil Spencer about the dependency and Spencer replied.

@tomwarren I think you are right. The dependencies between the services needs to be minimized.

Removing the dependency would go a long way to making the Xbox One more functional when there’s an Xbox Live outage. Hopefully this will be implemented soon. It’s quite annoying when you can’t even watch Netflix on your console.

Another user also asked Spencer about background music. He replied that the feature was put on the back burner to work on other pressing matters. Hopefully they’ll get back to it soon.
