Update: Sony is sending mixed messages on this topic. Their representative says Sony won’t charge you for patches but what about developers? Could there be specific versions of the game which cost more just for improved visuals? The comment by the representative is in stark contrast to the admission by Masayasu Ito that some patches will cost money. I guess only time will tell how this plays out.
PlayStation 4 Pro patches will cost separate fees according to Sony’s Masayasu Ito. Speaking to Japanese website Game Impress Watch, Masayasu Ito said:
This is definitely concerning news because this might give developers who are working on Xbox Scorpio titles an excuse to charge as well. Hopefully Microsoft will step in and rectify this situation because this move by Sony is definitely anti-consumer to say the least. Either the customer pays or the developer has to swallow the cost which is unfair to them. Hopefully Microsoft won’t see dollar signs when they hear about this news and do the right thing when it comes to people who support their brand.
