No matter what your views on the ethical side of emulation are, as gamers it’s an extremely impressive feat to see a program replicating an entire other console or machine through intelligent coding. We’ve seen N64 and NES/Genesis emulators popping up on Xbox One but now there are signs of a PSP emulator running on native Xbox One hardware.
Uploaded by Huaining ITC., LTD on YouTube, a short three-and-a-half-minute clip shows a port of PPSSPP booting and running—albeit running poorly—on a DevMode Xbox One. The emulation is nowhere near perfect however, with sound corruption and slowdown everywhere whilst running GTA Vice City Stories but it is still impressive to see the first version of this software online.
Sadly, this software may not ever become available to the standard Xbox One user as the laws around emulation are still quite dodgy and Sony’s history in the past with the emulation of their consoles—read about the court case between Sony and Bleem!. It would be nice to be able to play PSP games on the Xbox One but for now, check out the footage below.
