Retail Xbox Ones will finally become test kits later this year

Microsoft just confirmed that all retail Xbox One units will be unlocked as test kits later this year. The ability will come as a software update when universal Windows 10 applications and games go live. According to the company, this will happen in the second half of this year. Unlocking retail units as test kits was an ability promised by Microsoft when the console released and it is finally coming to fruition.

Beforehand, the ID@Xbox program was the only way for developers to get their hands on test kits. There is a wait and an approval process so it took a while. When the software update goes live later this year, anyone will be able to make games and applications for the console. This will result in a plethora of new experiences and we can’t even predict what amazing software we will see. The creativity of people is amazing. This change might be the biggest revolution for consoles. The future is going to be very exciting for the Xbox One.
