Epic’s Tim Sweeney praises Xbox Scorpio concept

Epic’s Tim Sweeney has had quite an antagonistic relationship with Microsoft lately over his views on closed platforms so the fact that he praised the announcement of the Xbox Scorpio is quite astonishing. He praised how Microsoft would let gamers carry on their titles from one device to the other even though it offered amazing internal components and they could’ve easily announced another generation with no crossover. It’s easier for developers too because they don’t have to relearn how to code for a new platform and can take their experience forward. You can read Tim Sweeney’s comments below.

“It gives you the best of both worlds. It offers the upgrade cycle of the PC which ensures that people always have access to the latest and greatest hardware and games don’t go out of date over a seven year cycle, together with the fact there’s a box you can go and buy…and you’re guaranteed that everything can work…From an industry insider perspective, the console industry will grow and sustain its user base much better if it doesn’t have to reset its user base to zero every seven years. The idea of throwing everything out and doing everything from scratch every seven years is completely crazy.”

Will you get an Xbox Scorpio? Now that it supports backward compatible Xbox 360 games as well as any Xbox One games it’s going to be the ultimate console in my opinion. I can’t wait until next year as I recently acquired a gorgeous 4K set and have been wanting to test it out in a meaningful way.
