A few days ago Microsoft Studios’ Twitter account responded to a question by a Wii U user. The user asked if Rare would ever come to their favorite console. Microsoft Studios’ representative was courteous and said that they should ask Rare Replay for it. You would’ve expected this friendly banter to end here but this was taken out of context and…reason…by many outlets and there were countless stories on how Rare Replay was coming to Wii U and maybe PlayStation 4.
While I understand the Wii U comment because the account that asked the question loved Nintendo games, I don’t understand how you can make the leap to PlayStation 4 when the console wasn’t discussed by either party. Either ways, there was also an opinion piece which said Microsoft was making their games third-party in the future. How the writer arrived to that conclusion boggles my mind.
Today, Rare came out and said that they were being asked a lot of questions about the Wii U. However, they affirmed that Rare Replay was exclusive to Xbox One and would stay that way. Additionally, they said that they were working on Sea of Thieves but appreciated the enthusiasm with which people asked for Rare Replay on Wii U. I’m not sure how this even became such a big deal. Either ways, the rumor has been discredited by Rare themselves. We can all rest now.
