Phil Spencer says Microsoft ships more exclusives than Sony

Phil Spencer had some rather stern remarks regarding Sony recently. Firstly he said that Microsoft was shipping more exclusives this year which, if you go by the count, is true. Secondly, he criticized Sony’s conference for showing games which might releases in 2018 and beyond.

Spencer said, “When I look at this year, I’ll just take the E3 conferences…we showed four big games launching exclusively on Xbox One and Windows 10. When I think about Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, ReCore, Dead Rising 4–all of those games are launching this year and they’ve been announced–there are dates next to them. And I think on the indie side, we’ve got Inside which I’ve been playing. We’ve got We Happy Few. We’ve got Below. We’ve got Cuphead. There are a ton more, but I’m just thinking about some real highlights in indie games that are coming this year. When I watch the other platforms, it’s not always clear to me when the games are shipping or how many of them are shipping this year.”

Both of Phil Spencer’s comment are true. Sony has a history of showing games which are scheduled to be released years later. For example, that new Hideo Kojima game is going to come out years from now and God of War 4 won’t be out until 2018 given how many delays Sony’s games suffer through. He definitely has a point. Microsoft is know to unveil future franchises at Gamescom so we’ll have to wait and find out what they have in store for 2017 but even with the existing list it’s looking quite promising.
