VLC media player coming to Xbox One

VLC, a popular cross-platform media player, is being developed as a Universal Windows Platform app. The app will be available on several Windows devices, including HoloLens and Xbox One.

The first platform that it will release on as a UWP app is Windows 10 mobile, with a public beta starting next week. The official release is set for early May. After that, it will come to Windows 10 desktop with a closed beta in early May and the official release around the middle of next month. People will be able to download the VLC app on Xbox One when UWP apps come to the console in the summer. A Windows 10 IoT version for the Raspberry 3 is being worked on with no official release date as of now. Lastly, a VLC app for HoloLens will be worked on once the developers have access to the device.

Although the upcoming versions won’t have too many new features compared to the current version, new features will be added on a weekly basis, including changes to the User Interface, Video Library UI, Video Player UI, and Network UI. The app will also be localized in French and English, with more languages to be added throughout the year.
