Microsoft have rolled out an update to its Xbox app on Windows 10 to users currently running the Windows 10 Technical Preview. This update brings many expected features such as the ability to view and download game clips, browse the Xbox OneGuide and take advantage of SmartGlass features. However, the most anticipated features such as the built-in Game DVR and game-streaming still aren’t present.
The ability to view your own Xbox One recorded game clips and watch popular community clips have been added in this update and you can download these clips to your PC from Xbox Live for further editing on whatever editing software you wish to use. Recording clips directly on your PC will be in a future update.
The community features such as profile and friends have received a lot of new features. Firstly, you can now like comments and delete your own posts on the activity feed. Your profile header will also now be collapsed by default to show more profile information on the screen. The friends search area has been enhanced with the ability to now search for your friends via their real name. You can also search for a game title and it will show you which of your friends are playing it.
The ability to take advantage of Xbox SmartGlass features have been added in today’s update meaning you can connect the Xbox App to your Xbox One meaning you can remotely control your Xbox One using the app with an on-screen remote. If you live in a OneGuide TV Listings supported region, you’ll also see a new option for the Xbox OneGuide where you can change channels easily. The built in DVR controls within the app allow you to control volume and access your DVR recordings on your set-top box.
Also in today’s update is the capability to see recently played Xbox Live games across devices including Windows 8/10, Windows Phone, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games. The app also now adapts to changing window sizing to display different views depending on the size of the window. This means better support for a wider range of PC’s with varying screen sizes.
As you can see, it’s quite the update. Have you already tried todays new update? Make sure to let us know the comments below.
