Update: Ghost of a Tale will be enhanced for Xbox One X.
Ghost of a Tale is absolutely fantastic despite being part of the Xbox Game Preview program. The title is a role-playing game which focuses on stealth for the most part. Instead of stepping into the shoes of some hulking being, you inhabit a minstrel mouse named Tilo. Ghost of a Tale is set in a medieval world populated only by animals. Tilo must escape the jail of Dwindling Heights Keep and discover the fate of his true love, Merra.
Tilo is much smaller than many of the other inhabitants in Dwindling Heights Keep so hiding and avoiding getting spotted are key to success. Armed with a mouse’s talent for stealth, agility and disguise—and a love of music—you’ll explore the towers and dungeons of the tower, navigating its dangers, collecting better gear, and discovering its secrets.
Just like any role-playing game, there are numerous quirky characters you meet along the way. While not everyone will become an ally, your main quest is to find Merra, no matter the cost. Let’s just say that you have to pick and choose your friends and foes carefully or it’ll become exceedingly difficulty to complete your quest.
Picking up items and using them in appropriate situations also plays an important part. For example, making sure you have enough food to replenish health is important. Collecting various keys to explore new areas is also necessary. Lastly, using candles to light the way and make sure you can explore a dark corridor properly plays a role.
Ghost of a Tale is developed by a very small team. Lionel Gallat, better known as Seith, created 90% of the art, design and coding. Paul Gardner is the game’s writer and an experienced designer. Cyrille Paulhiac does coding and also develops tools. Jeremiah Pena is the game’s composer, while Nicolas Titeux is responsible for sound design. This small team has made a game which is truly remarkable. Even when it’s missing the majority of its content, the title gives you hours of fun as you try to open each door, find coins, or search for other collectibles.
