Vivendi acquires over 20% of Ubisoft shares

Vivendi is known for hostile takeovers and they recently snatched Gameloft away from the Ubisoft brothers. Today, we found out that the company now owns over 20% of Ubisoft shares. According to an article by Europgamer, there’s no end in sight to Vivendi’s buy-up of Ubisoft shares. The company has said it is “considering continuing to acquire” more and also looking for a seat on Ubisoft’s board “consistent with its shareholder position”.

Ubisoft has no one to blame but themselves. Vivendi does what Vivendi does but Ubisoft spent years regurgitating terrible Assassin’s Creed games and other franchises that sold less and less, and disinterested gamers. They put themselves at risk because that’s how business goes. The fact that they’ve finally started to realize the error of their ways is too little too late. I’m not sure how this will play out but the company can’t shift blame to anyone other than their planning which failed them miserably.
