Aaron Greenberg, Head of Xbox Games marketing at Microsoft, has revealed that according to The NPD Group, the Xbox One was the number one selling console in the United States in July, beating Sony’s PlayStation 4.
Thanks to everyone who helped make #XboxOne the #1 selling console in July according to #NPD, nice to be back on top!

Microsoft Corporate Vice President Mike Nichols said in a statement, “We’re honored that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in July, and that total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours.”
It’s nice to see Xbox One back on top after several months. This move is likely due to the price cut of the original Xbox One down to $249 as well as the announcement of the Xbox One S which first released on August 2nd. Microsoft no longer reports exact sales numbers, but they have quite the year ahead of them with the release of several Xbox One S models as well as the launch of Project Scorpio in 2017.
