Bungie’s Luke Smith apologizes for throwing money at screen comment, offers shaders and emotes for $20

Destiny will never need to do much to boil my blood, but they are really going out of their way this time.

Months ago Destiny fans were somehow surprised when The Taken King was announced at a high price which included the main game and all the add-ons that they already have. So what about all of the players that already have everything? Do we still have to spend that much? Well the answer was yes and it left a very sour taste in everybody’s mouths.

Since then, there has been an apology from Destiny’s creative director Luke Smith. He wrote, “Reading my interview with Eurogamer and imagining it came from some random developer of a game I love–that random developer looks like an Asshat. But that Asshat was me–and those words rightfully anger you. I’m sorry.” This apology comes as no surprise as his attitude to the people buying his game was disgusting, and I’m not sure his apology will be enough for most.

They are now allowing you to buy the in-game emotes and armour shader for $20. I’m not sure what they are thinking, because this is still far from okay. Most indie games don’t cost that much. You can spend that much money and get so much more. That’s almost half the cost of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition! It’s still early days but I can’t imagine anybody being happy about what Destiny or Activision have to offer.

It can be debated all day, but add-ons are bullshit 90% of the time they’re used. Developers should follow CD Projekt RED and have paid content sure, but actually give people content for their money and give the smaller things away for free or at least a fair price. In which world is $20 fair for emotes and shaders? It confuses me how The Witcher was made with the budget of $67 million, yet a game like Destiny is made with $500 million. Mind you if I spent that much on a game I’d charge you for everything I could too. That was a joke, you fucked up Activision.

What do you guys think? Are you still playing Destiny and how do you feel about their new offer and apology? This whole situation is just ridiculous to me.
