The Xbox One Preview Program is giving members an opportunity to check out the new Overdog application. Preview Members should check their messages to see if they have been chosen to download and test the new service. Overdog is a matchmaking service that pairs gamers up in relation to their shared interests like music, sports or movies. This program is meant to help gamers find like-minded individuals to share game sessions with.
According to the company, “Instead of gaming with anonymous people in your favorite games (Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, and Madden to name a few), wouldn’t you rather game with people you have something in common with? Stop letting the console tell you who to play with. Game with people who feel like friends.”
Overdog recently went through a funding round that gave them $1.8 million worth of investments from capital firms Atlas Venture and Chicago Ventures. They also received contributions from a couple of notable individuals including Zynga founder Mark Pincus and Machinima founder Allen Debevoise.
“We couldn’t be happier with the make up of our investor group,” said Steve Berneman, the Chief Executive Officer of Overdog. He added, “Two venture firms with proven track records and a great group of strategic angels position Overdog well as we revolutionize online gaming. Our goals are to be in a very healthy spot with Xbox One and deploying on a second gaming platform before we have to raise money again. We want to improve matchmaking for online gamers across all platforms, whether that’s Xbox, PlayStation, mobile and tablet, or even some virtual reality ecosystem that has yet to materialize.”
