Professional Skier Matilda Rapaport died during the filming of a live action Steep commercial, the upcoming freestyle Ski game from Ubisoft. The developers along with Matilda decided to do a live action commercial, in the mountainous Chile, when she was trapped by an avalanche. She was rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries and died shortly after.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of Matilda Rapaport’s death. After a film production in Chile on Thursday, July 14 caught her in an avalanche. Despite the care and treatment days after, it was not possible to save her life. Matilda’s courage, passion and desire to share the sport she loved the world was an inspiration to other athletes, and for all of us. This tragic incident has touched us deeply. Our hearts and thoughts go out to her husband and all her other family during this difficult time.”
Steep was announced at the Ubisoft keynote at this year’s E3 and is based on the concept that allows gamers to experience the slopes of the Alpine much like the Skate series.
