More than 18 million Xbox One gamers reportedly used their consoles last month

Microsoft has sold a lot of Xbox One consoles but the exact number remains a mystery because the company’s new cloud-focused approach measures success through Xbox Live and usage metrics. If we go back to the company’s financial reports a few months ago, it indicated that they had sold around 23 million Xbox units (Xbox One and Xbox 360 combined). While we might never know the real figure, we were recently given a glimpse into how many Xbox One owners used their device in the last 28 days.

According to a report on GameSpot, “A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to ZDNet that active means any device that’s been active in the past 28 days…Foley added that the lion’s share of the 200 million Windows 10 figure accounts for Windows 10 PCs (180 million) followed by Windows 10 phones (1 million-plus), with the Xbox One’s reported 18 million making up the rest.”

Having 18 million active users in a month is truly impressive. This is the first number we’ve heard from either Sony or Microsoft as to how many users actively game on their platforms. Touting sales is one thing but having an active user base is another. I wonder how many Xbox One gamers were active when Halo 5 first came out. That would be an interesting statistic to look at.
