Battlefield 1 runs better on Xbox One than PlayStation 4

It looks like Battlefield 1 runs better on Xbox One than PlayStation 4. A few weeks ago we reported that the Xbox One version of Battlefield 1 reached 1000p and today Digital Foundry confirmed that. That makes it the same as PlayStation 4. The analysts said, “That said, the Xbox One version can also deliver pixel counts around 1000p in some situations, delivering image quality on par with PS4.”

While image quality is important, frame rate is much more important. The Xbox One has a clear advantage here. Digital Foundry said, “there are times when the Xbox One version gains a clear lead, with milder drops in performance during demanding scenes. A combination of long draw distances, alpha effects and multiple enemies on-screen appear to be the cause here, with PS4 sometimes falling around 14fps behind. This does lead to a smoother run of play across Microsoft’s system when the engine is more heavily pushed.”

This is great news for Xbox One owners who have had to suffer 720p resolutions and massive frame rate problems on DICE games in the past. Well, Frostbite 3 games to be exact. I’m glad that going forward the developers will utilize a dynamic resolution on Xbox One games given Battlefield 1, the latest iteration of their engine, does so.
