Microtransactions will be added to Destiny next week

Bungie has announced that the Awoken merchant Tess Everies will return to The Tower with lots of news such as a new look, a new storefront, and some new items to sell. This seems like good news for the Destiny fans…or maybe not because the return of Tess comes with a little surprise.

Bungie states that the return of Tess also brings “a new element we’re incorporating into Year Two of Destiny” and this new element is nothing less that the new sensationational feature, that is present in a bunch of other games, called microtransactions. That’s right, Destiny will feature microtransactions and the currency for this new feature will be called “Silver”.

For now the only items available on new storefront will be eight emotes for your character, which as Bungie states “won’t impact the action game in any way”. They also say that if you don’t want to buy anything from Tess “You’ll still receive updates to the game, and you won’t lose a Crucible encounter or fail to clear a Raid because you didn’t have the right Eververse Trading Company emote equipped”.

You all may be thinking “if it’s just some cosmetic items, I won’t waste my money on that”, but deep down we all know that microtransaction systems always end up as part of other systems. Don’t be surprised if you begin to see strange coins, motes of light, weapons, and all other items being sold through this system. The company will make sure that you are tempted. The reasoning behind making strange coins or legendary marks available for actual money will be, “oh, the feature was very popular and many gamers wanted to get the best gear quickly”.

All of this will become available after the next update scheduled to be released on October 13. To be sure that you are tempted to see and buy the new emotes, Bungie will “be dropping some free Silver into your account so you can purchase an emote or two and become legend through the power of dance”.

What do you think about this? Do you agree that microtransactions will make their way into other systems? Let us know in the comments.
