Update: Turtle Rock Studios just confirmed the game would be free-to-play on Steam. The plan is to eventually make it free-to-play on consoles. However, this seems like a diplomatic answer because as of October 26 they ended support. So who’s going to exactly bring it to consoles? We’ll find out sooner or later, I guess. You can read about it here.
It looks like Evolve is going to be free-to-play very soon. If you go to the game’s website, there’s a countdown timer which is scheduled to reveal some massive announcement tomorrow. The rumor that Evolve would be going free-to-play emerged on NeoGAF and other sources a few days ago but no one really gave it any credence. However, Evolve has also been removed from the Steam Store so you can’t buy it. Given the connection between these events, it’s not hard to imagine that the game might adopt that model.
Evolve was quite a failure and didn’t get the traction it needed. You can definitely call it a disappointment due to its rather limited gameplay and insane pricing structure for what it offered. We’ll keep you posted on what the countdown timer ends to. Until then, keep on speculating.
