Final Fantasy 14’s director says an Xbox One release is still possible

In a recent interview, Final Fantasy 14 Director Naoki Yoshida reiterated that the company is still having ongoing conversations about bringing the MMORPG to Xbox One. Though discussions are taking place, Yoshida implied that it could be a while before anything comes to fruition. This is due to regular patch updates which cannot be delayed depending on the platform.

“We need to make sure Nintendo and Microsoft understand what we do and have them know about our online and QA regulations. We believe these conversations will take a long time,” Yoshida said in an interview with Finder.

This isn’t the first time Yoshida has mentioned the possibility of an Xbox One version. Speaking to Polygon last June, he said that Microsoft approached the team about a cross-platform opportunity, but while reviewing regulations associated with that, they realized Microsoft did not “have the experience or understanding of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet.”

Judging by both comments and the length between them, I would not expect an official announcement any time soon. While discussions may be progressing, it seems that a long road is still ahead.
