According to Reddit user ulisestrabazo, Microsoft announced a free-to-play but stripped down version of Forza Motorsport 6 for Windows 10 at the press event last week. All of the announcements made at this event were given an NDA until March 1, 2016. According to the Reddit post, Microsoft announced a couple of Xbox games coming to the Windows 10 Store.
Here is the quote from the post detailing Forza Motorsport 6: Apex.
“Among them is Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, a version of the auto-racing franchise developed by Microsoft-owned Turn 10 Studios. Apex, a slimmed down version of its Xbox cousin, will be released free to users of Windows 10 this spring. Racing games have long been used as showpieces of the amount of visual detail developers could pack into games running on new hardware and software. Apex is positioned as an effort to show off the gaming potential of Windows 10. Windows 10 is Microsoft’s link between the Xbox and the PC.”
Also attached to the Reddit post was an image looking as if it was meant to be put in an advertisement.
I don’t know how well this will sit with PC gamers, as it is a stripped down version of Forza 6. As a PC gamer myself, I also wonder why they aren’t releasing the full game as this can conjure a larger audience and generate more money. I own the Ultimate Edition of Forza 6, and I would definitely pay for a PC port instead of a slim version of the game with less content.
Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is slated to release on the Windows 10 Store this spring for free. Also, the Forza 6 Porsche Expansion is set to release tomorrow, March 1.
