Aaron Greenberg says games like Crackdown 3 delayed due to packed holiday schedule

Many Xbox One gamers are wondering why Crackdown 3 and other games were delayed to next year. Well, now we finally have an answer due to Aaron Greenberg and the TXR Podcast. According to the Xbox executive in charge of marketing, games like Crackdown 3 have been delayed because Microsoft has many partnerships with third-party developers and first-party titles lined up for the holiday season. Titles like Battlefield 1, Madden, ReCore, Forza Horizon 3 and the heavy-hitters, Gears of War 4, are all scheduled to release in rapid succession.

Releasing more games like Crackdown 3 and Halo Wars 2, as well as Sea of Thieves, would jeopardize sales and not give each game the marketing attention they deserved. It’s best to spread out the releases into 2017 rather than cram it all into the same few months. Look at what happened with Rise of the Tomb Raider initially. While it eventually sold more than 1 million copies on Xbox One after a few months, its sales were cannibalized by Microsoft-partner titles Fallout 4. Spreading out releases into early next year is definitely a good idea in my opinion.
