Larry Hryb has announced next month’s four free Games with Gold titles. As always, this list includes two Xbox One games and two Xbox 360 backward compatible games.
Starting on March 1, players can download Layers of Fear for Xbox One and Borderlands 2 for Xbox 360, with the latter being a backward compatible game, allowing you to play it on Xbox One. On March 16, players can download Evolve: Ultimate Edition for Xbox One and Heavy Weapon for Xbox 360, also a backward compatible title. I think Heavy Weapon is one of those old-school tank shooters.
Evolve is a notable title included on the list as developer Turtle Rock attempted to transition Evolve into a free-to-play game on PC last year, with the idea of eventually bringing it to consoles, with mixed success. While it originally brought back a large number of players on Steam, the studio halted the game’s support months later, ending plans for a free-to-play version on consoles. The Ultimate Edition, which will be free next month for Gold members, includes the main game as well as the Monster Expansion Pack and Hunting Seasons 1 and 2. Think of it as the free-to-play game we never got.
